Rejoice in Hard Times (warning...IT ISN'T EASY)

Let me tell you. When my husband came to me and said he wanted a divorce, it was NOT my first thought to REJOICE. What in the world. James 1:2-3 literally says word for word to consider it PURE JOY when we are facing trouble.

“My brothers and sisters, you will face all kinds of trouble. When you do, think of it as pure joy. Your faith will be tested. You know that when this happens it will produce in you the strength to continue.”

James 1:2-3

This is a good verse and I am not good at it at all. It is just crazy to think we need to have joy in hard times...I don’t think of “oh I’m going through a divorce. Let me just rejoice!!”

Yeah no. That did not happen. I bawled my eyes out the whole day people. I did not rejoice.

Joy has been my word lately. I made a decal that says "Today I Choose Joy" and man that is the truth. You literally have to CHOOSE to be joyful. You need to choose to rejoice when you are facing trouble. Yikes, it is hard!! I honestly have never even thought of being happy during hard times.

Except for now. I see how I’ve been changed so much and how much I have grown. I feel like I’m such a better person now because of the last few months. So now I am rejoicing and I’m realizing I need to never stop rejoicing...even in the hard times.

The end of this verse where it says, "You know that when this happens it will produce in you the strength to continue" is SO encouraging because I am just so excited to continue to see God giving me the strength to grow and keep going on with my life. Can. Not. Wait!

While writing this blog, I searched through my messages for "joy" and it brought up a conversation I had with Melissa in AUGUST. She said, "God works through things over time, hard work, and perseverance. I think you’ll get to a place you never thought you’d be, if you are truly studying and working through these emotions by journaling, continuing to be involved in your church and community and looking at all the opportunities He has for you there to serve or help or anything. I think you will have more joy than you ever thought possible". I love everything my mentor Melissa shared with me and I’m so excited to continue my journaling, studying, working through emotions even when it sucks, staying involved at church and just being surrounded by my amazing community.

I am amazed at how far I have come in just 6 months. I am also amazed at how something from 6 months ago can be so relevant today! I mean I am a completely different person, truly relying on God and seeing the joy in so many situations! It’s awesome.

Message me if I can be praying for you in anyway!

xoxo,

Morgan Leigh

Here is a pic of my friend Cynthia's rearview mirror with a sticker I made for her! What a fun place to stick a decal, especially such a positive one!
